No Ouch For Mini

Mini Burrito is now officially a week old! That means another trip to the doctor's office. Mini could have made new friends with the other babies, but she was too busy napping. Weighed in at 5lbs 8oz - almost back to her birth weight although I'm not sure I trust the scale. Also, when we went to weigh her, we found a little surprise in her diaper. The nurse did not seem pleased. After crying loudly on the scale, she started peeing all over the scale and the examination table. Luckily the nurse did not notice. I wonder if it's MB's way of coping with uncomfortable situations. Afterward, the doctor checked out Mini and sent her for a bilirubin blood draw because of her jaundice. She didn't even cry when the nurse pricked her heel - brave girl!

Sleep Sounds

I can't sleep at the moment. It's not mini's fault but she makes the funniest sounds when she's sleeping. It's so cute! I'll have to record them someday.

A Lazy Wednesday

Prior to today, Mini Burrito has been sleeping most of the day and night. She generally was awake a grand total of 1 hour per day and probably only half an hour with her eyes open. Today, Papa Burrito had to go back to work and mini stayed awake for 2 consecutive hours with feedings, sunbathing, and playtime with Grandma, Uncle Lee, and Aunt Vivien! Papa thinks she's been faking sleep when he is around. Impressive for being less than a week old.

Laughing in my sleep?

Today, Mini Burrito was sleeping and she made a sound that sounded like a laugh complete with a smile. I don't think newborns are actually supposed to be able to do that, but I guess maybe she's advanced for her age. Generally, most of the sounds she makes sound like a cat in a catfight. We should know - we used to have a couple cats that would always fight outside our old apartment. Mini Burrito also got hiccups for the first time! Well, the first time outside of the womb. I tried to scare her to make them stop but it didn't work...

Aunt Wendy came over with E and Caleb. She wanted to drop off some nipple shields for Mama Burrito but she ended up forgetting them at home. Instead, we ended up giving E the toy that Uncle Peter built for us. We determined that it does not pass current Child Safety law standards as E almost flipped the thing over standing in the back.

First Sponge Bath

Grandma gave Mini her first sponge bath today. Today was also the first day of spitting up.

First Pediatrician Visit

Burrito visited Dr. Rostek's Sacramento office for the first time. Handled it quite well and braved the baby wellness exam. Weighed in at 5lbs 3oz.

Homecoming

So the little book they gave us to track feedings talked about how it's normal for babies to sleep a lot in their first day. However, things would probably change come day 2. Well, they were right. Mini Burrito was crying quite a bit at night. I definitely didn't get much sleep between the feedings and the crying and the uncomfortable cot. We heard her crying for the first time since she was born, and boy, does she have lungs for a mini burrito. It was loud and quite difficult to ignore in that little hospital room.

Today was the day we brought Mini to our home for the first time. We had to put her into the car seat for the first time. I think we only had one pair of pants for her so we made her look pretty ridiculous. She cried furiously as we put her into the car seat, but after a few minutes, she fell asleep. I guess I would cry too if I had to wear those pants. Unfortunately, her first time outdoors consisted of your typical gloomy foggy summer day in San Francisco. In fact, the weather has been like that since the day we went to the hospital. No sunshine for our baby yet. We were excited to show her our new home...unfortunately, she hasn't woken up.

Sleeping Beauty

Since her birth, Mini has been sleeping non-stop. She was awake for the first hour or so after she popped out, looking around curiously at everything in the delivery room. Soon after her first bath, she passed out. Since then, we haven't had much success waking her up. She got up for her feedings but would usually fall asleep on the nipple and attempts to wake her failed miserably. She finally woke up around 9:30pm after more than 24 hours of continuous sleep (minus the feedings). She was awake for an hour crying but rarely opened her eyes. I'm quite amazed at her ability to sleep -- must have gotten that from her mom.
