Dentist and Tooth #4

It's Mini's first visit with a dentist. Dr. H-K and staff were very nice and handle babies like pros. They quickly examined Mini in the lap hold while singing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and baby didn't even have time to get scared as she was distracted by song and toys. And funny thing is that she chose this time to start spitting which impressed them. Spitting means ready for brushing.

A fourth tooth was confirmed - top, left front tooth.
Dentist recs - start regular brushing and flossing. Come back at two years of age.

Testing brushes, playing with goody bag loot

Notables: Mini drinks from a straw now, is becoming a fanatic about Dora the Explorer, and understands clothing. She impressed Mama today when she put up both feet for socks and shoes. This leads back to three months old when she understood sleeves and slipping arms through one by one.

Eleven Months

It's been eleven months! One more month and Mini will be one year old. In the past weeks, she has learned to:

- Signal "all done, no more" by twisting her hand. This also means twinkle, twinkle little star when the song comes on.

- Shake head for yes and no. We can communicate with her now and ask if she wants milk and food.

- Beware of scary places like the bed border (she will go to the edge and stop) or the paper shredder (it turned on once and scared her with the noise). She also knows to scoot backward, butt-first to get off the couch.

- Mimic people. She has officially learned to kiss by watching others and will copy actions like wiping tables, brushing hair, talking on the phone.
- Walk assisted. She's on the verge of walking by herself but, for now, still has to ask for a hand to lead her around. For practice, she uses the high chair and toy car as walkers all day long.
- Turn lights on and off
- Point to and grunt at what she wants

Little Fish

Mini had her first swim at the Rossi Pool. She wasn't too keen on it but a couple more visits and she'll probably love it. It's just a big bathtub.

Unfortunately, she may have caught a cold after this outing. Baby's got a runny nose and congestion.

Hop n Play

Mama Burrito found out about this place in the Tanforan Mall for kids called Hop n Play. The best part is that it's free for kids who can't walk yet. Her first time was on Thursday with Mama and Grandma Chan. Yesterday, I went there for the first time with Mini while the women went shopping.

The Hop n Play consists of a bunch of mini rides and play areas for kids. Mini is probably a bit young. Most of the rides were too advanced for her. She was a big fan of the peanut ride (the first video), riding it 4-5 times. She kept pointing to it so I assumed that's what she wanted to do, but she would just sit there with a blank expression so I wasn't really sure if she was enjoying it.

She got scared on the waterbox (see image). It was like a sandbox except it was filled with water like a waterbed. When I first put her in, she just sat there as other kids jumped in and out. Then I put her down on all fours so she could crawl but she wasn't really digging the unstable surface. Finally, she decided to just lay down. It was really cute. Then the boy in the picture came by. He tried to ply Mini with toys, but it was only a precursor to the advances he would make on her. As she was focusing on the toys, he tried to make a move on her, putting his arm around her and planting a kiss on her forehead. I quickly picked her up and took her away.

In the last video, I put mini on another spinning ride. Actually, during this whole time, I couldn't tell if she was having any fun. Her face was stoic the entire time (re: first video). But she finally smiled when she saw Mama and Grandma Chan through the window. It was cute because she would turn towards them and point and wave as she went around in a circle. Fun times. Sorry about the sideways videos.

Mini Eats Banana

Mini started eating bananas on her own last week. Even better, she is so ready to share. Seems like a natural - my, that's a big bite!

Mini the Baller

She likes to play with the ball we got her as you can tell. Unfortunately, she's still not quite coordinated enough to be very good at the difficult game of roll the ball with Mama. Hopefully, with enough practice she'll be shooting baskets in no time. :)

Right Central Incisor

In other words, Mini has a third tooth now. Only seventeen more to go.
